We are deeply committed to enhancing quality of life through compassionate care with aloha of our experienced staff and a collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach that honors each individual while welcoming family and physician involvement. How much does it cost? Does Medicare or Medicaid cover the cost of staying at Hale Ho Aloha?
Hale Ho Aloha Nursing Home is a private-pay skilled nursing facility and does not accept Medicare or Medicaid reimbursements. We do, however, welcome many types of private long-term care insurance. This allows Hale Ho Aloha to offer exceptional care and remain one of the most competitively priced nursing homes in Hawai‘i.
Is Hale Ho Aloha conveniently located?
Yes! Situated in the Pacific Heights neighborhood with views overlooking downtown Honolulu, Hale Ho Aloha is a short 10-minute drive from many major medical facilities and doctors’ offices. We’re also 20 minutes or less from the Windward side and much of residential O‘ahu.
I don’t want my loved one to sit in what feels like a sterile warehouse. What is the atmosphere at Hale Ho Aloha?
Hale Ho Aloha is designed to feel like home. Residents enjoy panoramic views of Punchbowl and downtown Honolulu from our open-air lanai in a plantation-style setting. Spaces are filled with fresh air, natural light, soothing colors, and furnishings, along with unique works by local artists. The true charm of Hale Ho Aloha is evident the moment you arrive, creating a welcoming, comfortable environment where residents can thrive.
Can Hale Ho Aloha help get my loved one to and from doctor’s appointments?
Yes! Hale Ho Aloha can help coordinate transportation to and from medical appointments. We work with private transport companies, with costs covered either directly by families or indirectly through Hale Ho Aloha. We understand that family members have busy schedules, so when needed, we can even arrange for an escort to accompany your loved one to ensure their safety and comfort.
When can I visit my loved one?
At Hale Ho Aloha, we believe family involvement is an essential part of our philosophy of care. We strive to accommodate visits whenever it’s most convenient for you—whether in person or virtually through FaceTime or Zoom—because your presence matters.

Hale Ho Aloha also hosts family events throughout the year, creating opportunities to connect, celebrate, and build community. Stay tuned and follow us on our social channels to keep up with the latest events and opportunities.

May I have meals with my loved one? May I bring them food?
Absolutely! We encourage sharing meals with your loved one. You can bring their favorite dishes, as long as they follow the doctor’s dietary guidelines.

With a little advance notice, we can arrange a semi-private space in our dining room or on the lanais with sweeping panoramic views of Oahu’s south shore.

My loved one really enjoys local-style and ethnic foods. Is the kitchen able to accommodate this?
Absolutely! Hale Ho Aloha takes pride in local flavors, and our menu reflects that. We’re always happy to hear suggestions for local dishes or other favorites, and we do our best to try new items whenever possible. You’re also welcome to bring your loved one’s favorite foods when you visit. For safety and sanitation reasons, residents and families cannot use our kitchens directly.
What is a typical day like for a resident?
At Hale Ho Aloha, each resident’s day is tailored to their individual needs and preferences. This includes offering showers on multiple shifts to suit individual preferences, along with flexibility in the timing and location of other services.

Mornings may include discussions of local and world events, light exercise, games, entertainment, and religious services. Time is also set aside for medical appointments and visits from loved ones.

After lunch, many residents enjoy rest, followed by optional afternoon activities such as volunteer visits, exercise therapy, or special movie screenings.

Evenings feature an early dinner and quiet time for personal activities before bedtime, creating a comfortable, home-like routine.
